Early access to MOOCs was largely based on the use of desktop or laptop computers. The design and structure of the first MOOC sites were also developed to be compatible with desktop/laptop systems. Since the widespread use of mobile phones, the development has now been geared towards mobile compatibility.
I wish not to talk too much about this but rather direct your attention to an interesting report article I found on the Commonwealth of Learning official site.
