Repost: MOOC on M4D Report

MOOC or Massive Open Online Course is an online course aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the web. MOOCs are a recent and widely researched development in distance education which was first introduced in 2008 and emerged as a popular mode of learning in 2012 according to Wikipedia.

Early access to MOOCs was largely based on the use of desktop or laptop computers. The design and structure of the first MOOC sites were also developed to be compatible with desktop/laptop systems. Since the widespread use of mobile phones, the development has now been geared towards mobile compatibility.

I wish not to talk too much about this but rather direct your attention to an interesting report article I found on the Commonwealth of Learning official site. I found this report very interesting as I have done a bit of training on M4D (see page)You can read the executive summary of the report here.

You can also download the full report here MOOC on Mobile Phones 4 Development.

Following is a brief extract from front page of the 2014 report by David Porter.

For six weeks beginning October 2, 2013, IIT Kanpur and the Commonwealth of Learning delivered a massive open online course (MOOC) on mobiles for development (M4D). This report provides a pedagogical review of the M4D online course to better understand the prototype course, its participants, their performance and their response to the course design.
