Experimenting with AI tools

On the 27th April I was invited to present on Artificial Intelligence. I presented not as an expert in the field but rather an AI enthusiast and thought I should share some of the interesting things I'm experimenting with using AI.

I share here snippets from the presentation (which by the way was generated with the help of an AI tool, Magic Canva). Each image is accompanied with a brief description of what tool was used and for what purpose. The objective was to stir the interest in the audience mainly young students in the STEM field but also students from other disciplines to find an area of interest in which AI can be applied.

You can also find the presentation on Canva using this link:  Canva Magic Presentation

1. What basically is Artificial Intelligence?

2. Examples of areas where AI is mainly used.

3. How AI is serving others especially in the area of Healthcare, Education, Business, and Environment. There are many areas however I highlighted only these four.

4. Then came the question of "How can we adopt AI to address some of our challenges (social, economical, law and order, educational etc..) of new ways of doing things.

5. I shared some practical uses of AI in particular things that I am experimenting with.

6. Cultural Art - Bilum patterns and designs.

I thought wouldn't it be fun using AI to remix or generate entirely new designs or patterns of our bilums from the highlands, islands, momase or papuan regions. Here I give an example of using a tool called CFSpark Imagemix AI to generate new bilum patterns and designs from an original Highlands bilum.

7. Cultural Art - Bilum Patterns & Designs

Here's another one. A highlands bilum image fed into CFSpark Imagemix AI and let it generate new designs or patterns. You can continue remixing until you're satisfied with the patterns or designs.

8. Cultural Art - Tattoo Patterns

Here's another one.

10. Meri blouse designs and patterns.

For this one I used AI tool called Scribble Diffusion to sketch with my laptop and mouse a dress pattern and give a bit of text (you can see the text description at the bottom) for AI to generate an image of a new meri blouse.

11. I'm working on a kids story book and using an AI tool MidJourney to generate the illustrations for the story book. I signed up for $10 a month to create this images and many others.

12. I've already created a couple videos using AI generated voice apps and wanted to take this a step further when I found this tool ElevenLabs that can clone your voice for voice-over projects. How happy I was. You will definitely see some short videos using AI generated cloned voices.

13. Here's some of the tools I used and two others... I am still learning a lot and indeed experimenting with many other tools.

Canva: Where my creativity comes to life

Disclaimer: This is not a paid post by Canva. I am sharing this platform because it has helped me a lot in my work and I hope it will help you too.The link I share for you to sign-up however is a reward link where if you join through my referal, we both get to choose one premium photo, icon or illustration to use on our designs. We'll even be able to collaborate on designs together. Yay!

**********************************************************************************

Its been a while since my last article as I have been quite busy lately tinkering and learning new things. In this month's post, I'd like to share with you what has really become an indispensable tool for me when it comes to graphic design or editing. CANVA!

What is Canva?

Canva is a graphic design platform founded nine years ago in Perth Australia by Melanie Perkins, Clifford Obrecht and Cameron Adams. The platform allows you to create social media graphics, presentations, posters, documents, and other visual content. It includes templates for users to use also.

I have been using Canva for some years now. I subscribed to the Free package which is really great for individuals and small teams to create and download designs for any occasion. I have to tell you that I haven't been disappointed at all with the capabilities and features that come with the free package.

Evolving as a digital teacher: Tools of the trade (Part 6)

A sample video of the many videos I have done and put up on Youtube for my classes. Note that this is the only second video I have listed as 'public' with the DWU logo. All these videos for my classes with the DWU logo are 'unlisted' so only students have access to them. I do not monetize these videos and they are the property of DWU (by contractual agreement 😃).

Note: I don't have the best tools nor do I have the best room space/setup but I make the most of what I have.

📌 I use a Logitech Webcam for video and audio.
📌I do screen capture & editing using Camtasia. This handy tool has the capability to cancel out noise (requires a tweak). Get the 2020 version here.
📌Sometimes the live streams on the FB groups are done using OBS Studio (an open-source broadcasting software).
📌Graphics and video thumbnails are created using a site called canva.com
📌I use EpicPen to do the on-screen annotations.
📌I download non-copyright music for the background from tons of sites online.
(Mind you several of my videos have landed me on copyright strikes because music downloaded and used without permission, so be careful when you use music from online and upload to Youtube)
