All I know about Peroveta is that it was taught to our ancestors by the early missionaries that came from the LMS and Pacific islands. I know this for sure because most of the songs that they sing are in either Cook Island or Rarontonga languages (I know a few). Here's what pngtips says about peroveta.
Grandpa back in the early 70s. |
Anyway, I was fortunate enough to learn some of this songs and just last year while we were being taught a peroveta by our United Church Madang chaplain Kore Mavara and the marama I decided to record two of the songs. Although I had the chance of listening to many many peroveta's sung by my grandfather and grandmother I didn't think of recording them. Now that my grandfather is gone I sometimes wish I could have done this a long time ago (but then I didn't have the knowledge nor the tools back then anyhow).
These were just recorded last year during our preparations for LMS. I didn't have any better recording apps on my laptop but I did have Camtasia which is not a good tool for pure audio recording though but I had no choice I had to record these. Anyway hope you enjoy listening to them.
Warning: Raw mp3 records, no editing done on them. You might here someone coughing at some point. Hehe...
Here are the songs
